I understand the need for a Resource Center, especially after an unsettling year of sexual assaults, not to mention the numerous cases that take place on college campuses across the country. My concern is that this is a resource center for women on campus, but women are not the only victims of sexual abuse or assault. Because there are not many reported cases of sexual assault of men, the subject is fairly taboo. Not many males, especially college-age males, feel comfortable coming forward about sexual assault and I feel that this woman’s resource center reinforces this difficulty to come forward. I appreciate the need for this center, and absolutely endorse a student-run resource center specializing in sexual safety and basic college life, but because we are a school that focuses on Social Justice, both male and female students should have equal resources.
