With the start of a new semester, students heading to the library to hit the books will be welcomed with the new Gleeson Library Study Zones, marked in various locations around the library according to three different standards of noise tolerance.

The University of San Francisco’s Donahue Rare Book Room is not in danger of being closed and no current items have been identified as potential items to be auctioned off, according to Gleeson Library Dean Tyrone Cannon, who called the room “an indefinite part of the library.”

Anyone who has spent a considerable amount of time during finals week in the Gleeson Library knows that noise can reach unprecedented highs, limiting one’s ability to focus on work. In an effort to stem the growing issue of noise in the library, the Gleeson staff have decided to enact some new policy rules, effective Apr. 1, 2009.

At their first meeting on Tuesday, ASUSF voted to extend Crossroads hours on the weekends and they discussed changing the library guest policy, which requires twenty four hour notice prior to a guest using the library.
