While a new school year has begun, the matter of housing shortage resurfaces. Overcapacity in the residence halls has been a matter of concern for several years, and as each incoming class grows in size, the Office of Residence Life (ORL) has begun to reconsider their housing policies to alleviate overcrowding.

In a bold move to deal with the housing shortage that USF goes through every year, the Office of Residence Life has announced a change in housing next semester, allowing four students to live in a double room. ORL sources have also suggested the possibility of moving underclassmen out to tents on Welch Field.

Beginning this spring, incoming freshmen and returning students will be able to choose their room and roommate from the comfort of their homes. The Office of Residence Life (ORL) has implemented a new electronic system that has moved the housing and roommate selection process online. Students can now select and reserve a room online. Director of ORL Steve Nygaard said, “The idea is to improve our service to students.”
